Description
A handsome walrus tusk from the late 1900's, 1 3/4" diameter at the base and 23" long with very nice scrimshaw (etching) of an eagle, a fox and a Dall sheep with an Alaska wilderness background. Signed by the artist Ed Milligrock who was a gifted Alaskan Inupiaq carver and scrimshaw artist from Little Diomede Island, Alaska, only 1 mile off from the Siberian island of Big Diomede. He learned how to work with walrus ivory from his father, Dwight who learned ivory carving from his father, who learned from his father, they were all good men, good artists and good hunters. This tusk has a very short hollow about 1" deep, easily worth $1200, priced at only-$750.
